WHO WE ARE

Suffolk Constabulary Male Voice Choir thrives on the sense of camaraderie that blossoms when individuals from diverse walks of life come together through the shared joy of making music. Our repertoire spans a wide array of genres, from art songs and opera to folk, rock, and pop—ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

We learn around twelve new songs each year. After the first week or so we spend rehearsal time working on the musicality of songs, and therefore you’re expected to learn the notes and lyrics in your own time and put in some practice at home each week. Audio "sing-along" tracks are provided for this. We also have a total rolling repertoire of around 25 songs that will likely take you some time to learn, but you won't need to be able to sing these all to start with!

Carolyn Goates

Our musical director
CAROLYN GOATES

Carolyn joined us as MD in 2018. She was a teacher of piano, guitar and voice for many years as well as composer and arranger of musical theatre and rock and pop repertoire.

She has co-written and performed in musical theatre productions as well as played guitar and keyboard in a rock covers band for many years. Carolyn currently plays alto saxophone in the Community Light Orchestra, and is musical director of a wind band, Essentially Swing.

Also musically trained in a classical background, she aims to bring diversity and forward thinking to the role as MD of our choir.

Natasha Free

Our accompanist
NATASHA FREE

Natasha joined the choir in Autumn 2021. She started learning the piano aged 8 and was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy a career in Music. Natasha gained a Music degree at Hull University and worked in music publishing for a short while, before deciding to go freelance.

Natasha has now taught piano and woodwind as a peripatetic in schools and privately at home for over 20 years. She also accompanies exams and soloists in local concerts, frequently performs in orchestras around East Anglia as a bassoonist, and has worked in Musical Theatre, as musical director and pianist for shows performed by local am-dram societies.

Natasha brings a high level of musicianship to our rehearsals and performances and we are very pleased to have her as part of our happy team.
